Spurs need to Strike

All Spurs fans across the country are praying that a striker of top quality is unveiled at the Lane sooner rather than later, but who is actually the man for us?

Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko all struggled to hit the net whilst donning the Spurs jersey last season, bagging a mere 17 goals between the three. This should come as somewhat of a worry to boss Harry Redknapp as his side create a hatful of chances thanks to the service from the talismatic Modric, Bale and Lennon.

With Rafael Van der Vaart occupying a free role, this rules of the option of playing 2 strikers, therefore a lone striker would be the perfect answer to this problem, as neither of the current 3 possess the attributes necessary to play up top by themselves. But who is available?

Emmanuel Adebayor - With City buying strikers like a 13 year old boy on Football Manager, the big Togolese striker will find himself on the bench at best should he stay in Manchester for the 2011/2012 season. Despite City unwilling to do business with Tottenham, it may be the only option they have to get the ex-Arsenal man off the books as City look to pave the way for more signings and Ade's space in the 25 man squad could be sacrificed. This would represent a good deal for Spurs as he would probably cost around the £15 million mark, and would bring pace, height and a real presence to the Tottenham front line and would compliment Bale, Lennon, VDV and Modric perfectly. William Gallas showed how to get the fans on his side, so why cant Adebayor do the same?

Didier Drogba - 3 years back rumours of the Ivorian leaving Stamford Bridge would have been laughed at, however with the signing of Torres in January, it could signal an end to Drogba's Chelsea career. At 33, you'd imagine he'd be on the decline, however in my opinion he still has a good few seasons in him at the very top, and could turn out to be the missing piece of the Tottenham jigsaw. Bullish, quick and good in both boxes, Drogba could be the player to make the difference, however there's no denying wages could be a problem.

Leandro Damiao - A relatively unknown name to many before being linked with Spurs, the Brazilian has burst on to the scene since the beginning of the season at Sandro's old club Internacional, playing 24 games and netting 22 goals in the process. With 1 Brazil cap to his name, he'd certainly be viewed as a long term solution, and whether he's signed along with an experienced striker to help him settle in is another possibilty, and at £12 million could well be a risk that Harry is willing to take.

Dimitar Berbatov - Once a hero, but know a villan at the Lane after his school boy tantrums prior to joining United, however reports have surfaced that he could well be off from the red side of Manchester. With Rooney and Hernandez striking up a settled partnership, the Bulgarian again can only expect a bit part role should he stay, and despite pledging his future to the Red Devils, a concrete offer from Spurs could change his mind. We all know the quality he possesses, and at the speculated fee of £10 million would be great business, and he'd improve us no end, but for me this seems a bit too ambitous.

Personally i'd sign Damiao and try for Drogba, although Porto's Falcao could be another name which would be an interesting signing, i suppose we'll have to wait and see. Let's just hope its not another Frazer Campbell debarcle on the last day of the window! Come on you Spurs.
